Epure vs Honeybadger: errors only, or errors plus uptime and logs
A dated comparison for a SaaS run by one or two developers: what Honeybadger bundles, the SDK you keep, quota behaviour, agent access and the price at three volumes.

Epure vs Honeybadger is a choice between two small, independent error trackers with different scopes. Picture a two-person Next.js SaaS that sends 200,000 errors a month and already runs @sentry/nextjs. On Honeybadger it would swap that SDK for @honeybadger-io/js and, with opt-in overage, pay about $71 on Team. On Epure it changes the DSN and pays $29. Honeybadger also brings uptime checks and logs that Epure does not have, so the table starts there.

Honeybadger facts verified 6 Nov 2026 against honeybadger.io/plans, docs.honeybadger.io/lib/javascript, github.com/honeybadger-io/honeybadger-mcp-server and the official MCP registry. Epure facts: v0.2.0. Prices in US dollars before tax, monthly billing.
Where is Honeybadger better than Epure?
Honeybadger is better when one bill should cover more than errors. Its Team plan includes 5 uptime monitors with 2-minute checks, a status page, cron-style check-ins and 100 MB a day of Insights logs next to 50,000 errors (Honeybadger plans, checked 6 Nov 2026). Epure has cron monitors and nothing else from that list, so a team on Epure adds an uptime service and a log tool and pays for them separately.
- An official MCP server that agents can find.
io.honeybadger/mcp1.5.1 has been in the official MCP registry since 16 Oct 2026, with hosted OAuth endpoints in the US and the EU. Epure is not in the registry yet. The local server runs read-only by default (HONEYBADGER_READ_ONLY=true). - A track record. Honeybadger is a long-running, independent hosted service. Epure is in Beta at v0.2.0, and we have not yet published a grouping-quality measurement.
- A free plan and a longer trial. Developer is free for one user and 5,000 errors. The trial runs 30 days without a card; Epure's runs 14.
- Longer retention at the entry price. Team keeps errors 90 days and Business 180. Epure Pro keeps 30 days; 90 days needs Scale at $89.
- Its own SDKs. Honeybadger writes and supports the libraries you install, so a bug in the client is the same vendor's problem. Epure relies on Sentry's SDKs.
How does Epure handle errors differently from Honeybadger?
Epure keeps the Sentry SDK you already run, where Honeybadger asks you to install its own. For a codebase on @sentry/nextjs or sentry-sdk, moving to Epure is a DSN change; moving to Honeybadger means replacing Sentry.init, the capture calls and any beforeSend logic with Honeybadger's API. Our ingest tests replay 102 envelopes from 22 Sentry SDK fixture families. Check your runtime in the SDK matrix.
Floods are the second difference. Epure stores up to 100 events a minute per identical error and 150 per throw site, and counts the rest on one inbox row (how the spike valve works). Honeybadger counts every notice against the monthly quota and says it does not throttle bursts. A looping error can therefore use up a Honeybadger month that Epure would have held to one issue with an exact count.
Epure alerts fire on a new issue, a regression or a velocity spike, to Slack, Discord, Telegram, email or signed webhooks (alert rules). Epure never stores IP addresses, and end-user emails and usernames stay off unless a project opts in.
What happens when you exceed your Honeybadger or Epure quota?
Honeybadger keeps processing up to 125% of your monthly error limit, then stops processing data until the end of the month, unless you turn on overage billing at $0.0003 per extra error on Team or $0.0006 on Business (Honeybadger plans, checked 6 Nov 2026). On Team that is 62,500 errors before the cut-off. The choice is yours: a hard stop or an open-ended bill.
Epure Cloud takes a third option. Past the quota, every occurrence of an existing issue is still counted, and the first event of each new or regressed issue is still stored, up to a grace of 5% of the quota (10,000 events on Pro). Past the grace, existing issues keep counting and only new fingerprints are refused until the next month. Email warnings go out at 80% and 100%, with no overage and no automatic upgrade (the over-quota rule).
How do Honeybadger MCP and Epure MCP compare for Claude Code or Cursor?
Honeybadger MCP and Epure MCP both let Claude Code or Cursor read production errors after an OAuth sign-in. Honeybadger's hosted server is https://mcp.honeybadger.io/mcp (or eu-mcp for the EU), and the registry entry describes tools for errors, logs, alarms and cron jobs, version 1.5.1 (honeybadger-mcp-server, checked 6 Nov 2026). Epure's hosted server is https://app.epure.sh/mcp, and @epure-sh/mcp runs over stdio.
Event data is where Epure is explicit. Anyone holding your public DSN can send an error whose message reads like an instruction. Epure's MCP server tells the agent that application content is untrusted data, and epure_issues_context leaves raw payloads out and hashes end-user emails and IDs unless the call asks for them. Honeybadger's MCP README does not discuss prompt injection (checked 6 Nov 2026), which means undocumented, not absent. Run npx -y @epure-sh/mcp --read-only for read tools only; the Claude Code and Cursor guide has the setup.
What do Honeybadger and Epure cost at 50,000, 200,000 and 1.5 million errors a month?
Honeybadger Team costs $26 at 50,000 errors and Epure Pro $29 at the same volume, so Honeybadger is cheaper there and includes uptime checks. Above 50,000, Honeybadger's plans page sells larger tiers through a calculator whose prices are not in the page text, so we show the published overage rate instead. Same assumptions on both sides: errors only, monthly billing, US dollars before tax.

Honeybadger base prices and overage rates ($0.0003 Team, $0.0006 Business per error above 50,000) from honeybadger.io/plans, checked 6 Nov 2026. Its calculator lists 100K, 300K, 500K, 1M and 3M tiers without prices in the page text; ask Honeybadger for a tier quote, which may be lower than the overage figures. Epure prices from epure.sh/pricing.
At 200,000 errors the gap is about $42 a month on Team with overage, before you count Honeybadger's uptime and logs. If you would otherwise pay for an uptime service, subtract its price from that gap. Put your own volume into the Sentry pricing calculator, which also shows the Sentry side.
How do you switch from Honeybadger to Epure, or from Sentry to either?
Switching from Honeybadger to Epure means installing a Sentry SDK, because Epure accepts Sentry's protocol and not Honeybadger's. In a Next.js app that is @sentry/nextjs with the Epure DSN and tracesSampleRate: 0. Coming from Sentry, the move to Epure is one DSN line, while the move to Honeybadger replaces the SDK. History does not migrate in either direction, and alert rules are recreated by hand.
// sentry.server.config.ts
import * as Sentry from "@sentry/nextjs";
Sentry.init({
dsn: "https://PUBLIC_KEY@your-epure-host/PROJECT_ID",
tracesSampleRate: 0,
});Keep Honeybadger's uptime monitors running if you rely on them; Epure does not replace them. Test in staging first with the migration guide, and roll back by restoring the previous configuration and redeploying.
Should you pick Honeybadger or Epure for a small SaaS?
Honeybadger fits a small SaaS that wants errors, uptime and logs from one vendor with its own SDKs, and sends under 50,000 errors a month. Epure fits a SaaS run by one or two developers who already use a Sentry SDK, need errors only, send 50,000 to 1,500,000 events a month, or want to self-host. Both have unlimited users on paid plans.
Pick Honeybadger if
- You want uptime checks, a status page and logs on the same bill.
- You send under 50,000 errors a month and like $26 with 90-day retention.
- Your agent should find an error tracker in the official MCP registry today.
- You prefer a long-running vendor; Epure is in Beta.
Pick Epure if
- Your code already runs a Sentry SDK and should keep it.
- You send 200,000 or 1,500,000 events a month and want a flat $29 or $89.
- A looping error should stay one issue with an exact count.
- You want the option to self-host under AGPL-3.0.
How did we check this Epure vs Honeybadger comparison?
We read Honeybadger's plans page and JavaScript docs, the honeybadger-io/honeybadger-mcp-server README and the official MCP registry entry io.honeybadger/mcp 1.5.1 (published 16 Oct 2026) on 6 Nov 2026. Honeybadger prices above 50,000 errors are our arithmetic from its published overage rates, not a Honeybadger quote. Epure facts come from v0.2.0 and its test suite in epure-sh/epure.
Epure wrote this page, so read it with that in mind. We re-check it every three months and when Honeybadger changes its plans. To report an error, email support@news.epure.sh or open an issue on epure-sh/epure; we correct and date every change. Other options are on Sentry alternatives for errors-only tracking.
Questions
Does Honeybadger work with the Sentry SDK?
@honeybadger-io/js, and does not mention Sentry SDK compatibility (checked 6 Nov 2026). Epure accepts events from the official Sentry SDKs once you change the DSN, so a codebase already on Sentry keeps its SDK and capture calls.
